Mana is based on Pine® version 3.91, and is free software.

Currently, preliminary Spanish and Norwegian versions are available.
Installation and maintenance of the program source code made easier
by use of the GNU autoconf package.
Implemented reading of news overview file, both for local news
and for NNTP - quite significantly speeding up display of message headers.
True news article threading properly implemented, with a
new and quick article sort method that truly reflects article
threading.
A new Kill command supports scoring for news articles. Based
on matching Subject and From
headers, or matching thread, it will remove news articles that are of no
interest to the reader.
Introduced a facility for setting up and maintenance of a comprehensive
filter for sorting of incoming mail by use of the procmail utility.
The editor now has support for spell checking using ispell
neatly integrated. It obeys the selected native language.
Implemented extended Takeaddr command that also searches
message body and text for probable mail addresses and
URLs. Any URLs found and selected can be appended
to a bookmark file.
Implemented Takeaddr subcommand that allows application
programs (e.g. Lynx, Ncftp, Mosaic) to be started based on the
URLs. The URL tag to
application program name bindings may be configured.
Introduced mouse support, for both X and Linux console. The mouse can
select commands, scroll text,
select areas for editing and so forth.
Command for canceling own news postings.
The editor gets a command for search-and-replace with prompting, plus
a command for writing to a file, and a command to spell check
the current word.
The editor now understands the concept of indented paragraphs.
Support for decoding of RFC1741 binhex-coded MIME messages via the
mac-binhex40 content-transfer-encoding tag.
For support of enhanced command set,
the editor now understands the Meta-key.
The editor now has an auto-capitalization mode.
Filename completion by use of the Tab-key introduced for commands
involving filenames.
The view mode now supports direct decoding of conventional uuencoded
messages. There is also
support for decoding of uuencoded MIME messages via the
X-uuencode content-transfer-encoding tag.
Reply possible within Takeaddr, for messages from people who haven't
heard of the Reply-To header.
Introduced configuration variables to enable making customized citation
heading.
Attachments will now be handled with a coding
appropriate for the contents, i.e. text proper will be coded as text.
Support for previous mode via a configuration
option.
Shows quoted text (with > prefix) in green.
Rejects news postings with empty subject or empty body, and
complains about news postings with too long lines and too much
quoted material.
Properly obeys Followup-to for news followups, and
handles Followup-to: poster properly.
When posting, a Followup-to field may be added.
Full news thread navigation: Go to parent, sibling and child article.

Some (but surely not all) cases of broken coding are handled.

menu levels in a consistent manner.

Allowed 8 bits in message headers, controlled by configuration.
Drastically reduced size of Message-ID.
Added configuration features that enables use of straight MIME
8bit coding instead of the Quoted Printable in news postings and
email messages, respectively.
